"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other you can't serve God and money." Matt. 6: 24 KJV

Matthew is emphatic, a person cannot serve two masters! Two bosses in the work place results in frustration, inefficiency and often hurt feelings for both the supervisors as the employee invariably will favor one over the other. It is likewise impossible in the spiritual realm to serve God and money with equal fervor. There is nothing wrong with money. It is a good servant, but a terrible master. The Bible teaches us to labor (to make money) "that we may have to give," not to hoard or be enslaved by it. Matthew uses some strong words to emphasize the dangers of attempting to serve two masters. God requires that we serve Him with all our heart, mind and spirit. Do you have your money, or does your money have you?
