"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." Psalm 23:1 KJV

There are no words in all the volumes of human history equal to the comfort these brief seven verses in Psalm 23 bring to the reader. A young child captured the essence of this most beloved Psalm when he said, "The LORD is my shepherd; that's all I want." The identity of the shepherd in this Psalm is the good shepherd of John 10, who lays down His life for the sheep. When Jesus Christ is our Shepherd, Savior, and Lord, we have in Him everything our hearts should need or desire. Jesus and the benefits He provides cover most contingencies of life. The twin sheep dogs, (goodness and mercy), like Jesus, accompany us all the days of our lives, until we "dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” When you can't sleep, don't count the sheep; talk to the Shepherd.
