"If you really fulfill the sovereign law according to the Scripture, you shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors." James 2:8, 9; NKJ

Sad to say, many of us hardly know or even speak to our neighbors, much less show them the love of Christ. The last 6 of the 10 commandments relate to our fellow man; keeping all of them is possible when we love our neighbor as ourselves. The word "if" in our text can be translated "since" which probably indicates those to whom James is writing were already violating his condemnation of showing partiality. Loving your neighbor as yourself has to be within your ability, sphere of influence, and opportunity. Luke 10:30-37. Narcissism and love of oneself is condemned as one of the evils that will characterize the last days prior to the coming of our Lord.
