Panic Results When God Is Silent

"To You I will cry, O LORD, my rock: Do not be silent to me, lest if You are silent to me, I might as well give up and die." Ps. 28:1

The word "cry" is used 30 times in the books of Psalms and Jeremiah and is synonymous with prayer. King David and the "weeping prophet" Jeremiah frequently used this word "cry" to characterize their prayers. In O.T. times, and lesser in the N.T, God spoke audibly to the leaders and people of Israel. David's greatest fear was that God would be silent and unresponsive to his prayers. Most of David's prayers can be reduced to two words "help me", which are not profound, but straight to the point. God certainly can speak audibly in our days, but because of His finished revelation, the Bible, He has no compelling reason to do so. All we need to know about Him and His purposes is clearly stated in the Bible. God hears the faintest cry of the human heart.
