Patient Waiting

"I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock making my steps firm. Plus He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear and will trust in the LORD." Psalm 40:1-3

One could title these verses "the road from sadness to gladness." The Psalmist describes his condition as a place where he was hopelessly captive without Divine intervention. All of us have had days we too could describe as "the Pits." David's response was to pray and wait patiently upon the LORD. God heard his plea for help and lifted him out of the proverbial pit and set his feet on a solid footing. In place of the pit of despair He gave him a "song of praise." Many who observed of this drama of faith and deliverance were motivated to "trust in the LORD." Let us resolve to follow David's example in our times of greatest need.
