Possessing Or Only Professing

"He said to them, “An enemy has done this." The servant said to him, "Do you want us to go and gather them up?" But He said, "No, lest while you gather up the tares, you also up-root the wheat with them.’" Matt. 13:28-29

In this marvelous parable, Jesus in His explanation makes it clear the tares and wheat represent two very different groups of people mingled together, looking alike and the difficulty of identifying "who is who?" The tares are unbelievers planted by the devil amongst true believers (the wheat). Jesus warns the servants of attempting to uproot the tares lest in the process they uproot the wheat. Only at harvest time can the difference between the tares and the wheat be clearly seen. We must be careful not to prejudge those who are not true Christians lest we be seriously mistaken and do harm to the body of Christ. God will make that distinction at harvest time.
