Proper Use Of Our Freedom

"For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." Galatians 5:13

Spiritual freedom is more precious than even the freedom a nation can grant its people. We cherish them both; however, they are distinctly different. The one is given by a ruling government, the other by Jesus Christ to those who trust Him as Savior and Lord and are thus freed from sin's condemnation and power. Jesus said in John 8:36, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed." We are not at liberty to do anything we want to do, but free and empowered to do what we ought to do while serving our Lord and one another. Will our action offend a fellow Christian who does not feel the same liberty? Love for a weaker brother must control the use of our freedom in Christ.
