Spankings Bear Fruit
"Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous; nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness." Hebrews 12:11 KJV
We prefer to avoid spankings, whether by men or God. It is difficult to look upon God's discipline as something to rejoice in because we are short-sighted and preoccupied with only the immediate discomfort it brings. The writer here shows us that by seeing and accepting discipline as an instrument of God to correct, train, and teach us, over time yields what He alone can produce, "the peaceable fruit of righteousness." Peace, that which we all desire and few possess, is inextricably coupled to righteous living. God's chastening is clear proof of His love and that we belong to Him.
