The "Old Man" Just Hangs Around

"That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lust, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness." Eph. 4:23,24; NKJ

The old man in many of us has more than nine lives. As redeemed children of God, we are not totally freed from Satan's deceitful corrupting influence. We must consciously and willfully strip off the old filthy clothes that characterized our conduct before we came to faith in Christ. We must die daily to "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life." Next, we must put on the new self that is the visible display of what God did at salvation when He renewed our minds by giving us a completely new spiritual and moral capacity. Don't wear the grave clothes of our old self. Reckon the old man as dead. Don't let him climb out of the grave!
