"Because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel" Colossians 1:5

In the "olden days" people used to "lay up" (store up) canned goods and other non-perishable items to provide for their families and get them through long winter months. People still do that, even city folks, but the need today is not as pressing. We have freezers and many shopping options. Spiritually-speaking, God has provided for us what we could never provide. He has reserved our place in heaven. We know this because of the gospel, the Word of Truth.
