"According as His divine power hath given us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue." 2 Pet. 1:3

In attempting to describe the power of God, the Biblical writers frequently would refer back to His creation or the crossing of the Red Sea on dry land by the Israelites. It's hard to put our mental arms around the truth that God is all-powerful, but looking at God's creation is to most a very convincing voice. Jesus in John 10:10 said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." The "they" here are the redeemed sheep of His pasture, who by reason of God's power are given everything needed for our life in Christ, even to live godly lives.
