The Need To Prioritize

"It is not desirable that we should leave the Word of God and serve tables. Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word." Acts 6:2-4

The issue before us is not a menial task versus a spiritual task, but one of priority. There were plenty of men who could organize the serving of meals and the dispensing of the charitable giving to the poor and widowed, but few who could teach God's Word. A quote by Bob Jones, Sr. (1883-1968) said it best, "For the Christian there is no difference between the secular and the sacred; all ground is holy ground and every bush is a burning bush." Everything we do, small or great, must, and can be done to the glory of God. I believe eleven of the twelve apostles were gifted men to the church for its edification, so they must give themselves to "continual prayer and the ministry of the Word."
