The Peril Of Drifting

Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?" Heb. 2:1-3a NKJ

Through apathy or willful neglect, the Hebrew readers were in grave danger of drifting past the safe harbor of salvation in Christ. They must now act upon the gospel message they had clearly heard or be forever lost. The writer reminds them that the men who heard the words spoken by angels were held accountable and judged for their disobedience. How could they escape the judgment of God should they reject this great salvation "that was first spoken by Jesus and then confirmed to us by those who heard Him" (Heb. 3:3b). Then and now, there is no escaping God's judgment if Jesus is rejected. Keep speaking the gospel message to those who are drifting away from salvation.
