"And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul." Deut. 10:12

These speeches, given by Moses only weeks before his death, were for the purpose of making clear the Law and statutes under which God's chosen people would be governed in the Promised Land. Serving the Lord with all their heart and soul was one of the five requirements mentioned here and in verse 13. They knew clearly what God's expectations were, and so do we. Serving God is first and foremost a matter of the heart. We must earnestly want to do what pleases Him. Love for God not only restrains us from evil but also compels us to do good and live for His glory. Whatever our vocation in life, it needs to be evident that we are serving God with all our heart and soul.
