What God Wants

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; and a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." Psalm 51:17 KJV

According to this verse, what does God want from us? What pleases Him? It is less about what we do for Him than it is the condition and attitude of our hearts before Him. God rejects the offerings and works of our hands when they come from a proud or boastful spirit. A broken and contrite heart is characteristic of the person who acknowledges his own sinfulness and unworthiness, and thereby becomes overwhelmed by the grace and mercy of God. Our heavenly Father looks with favor upon all who come to Him with such a spirit. "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (I Peter 5: 5b). Your brokenness, contrition, and tears may well be the best offering you can give to the LORD today.
